Filasky's is a working produce farm first and a fall destination second, and that's the appeal. John and Cindi Filasky started growing in New Castle County in 1981. The family still runs it — their son John Jr. manages the fields, Cindi runs the market — and the farm market has been open to the public since 1994.
From late April to mid-November the market is open every day, 9am to 6pm. Sweet corn is what they're known for, alongside tomatoes, melons and asparagus, plus eggs, dairy, honey, meat and baked goods from nearby farms.
Fall weekends are the family outing. Hayrides and activities run 10am to 4pm starting Saturday, September 26. Pick a pumpkin in the field, take the hayride through the fields, and let the kids run the soybean maze — it's designed for children, so it's walkable for a preschooler rather than a production. There are photo spots, and pumpkin donuts and Woodside Farms ice cream at the market.
For something bigger, the farm books nighttime hayrides with a bonfire afterward, from mid-September to early November. You bring the food and use the pavilion or the hot dog grill. Call Cindi to check dates. Birthday parties (a private hayride plus the pavilion) and weekday school tours for Pre-K through 3rd grade are also booked by phone.
